Mission and Programs
Audubon Upper Mississippi River is a regional office of the National Audubon Society and a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations are tax-deductible. We share the National Audubon Society's 100+ year heritage of working to protect our environment. While we are part of the national organization, we establish our own state and regional programs, and pursue our own funding for state and regional efforts.
Our Mission
Our mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and their habitats, for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity.
Our Approach
Audubon Upeer Mississippi River believes that what is good for birds is good for people too, including healthy habitats, and clean water, and clean air. We deliver conservation results by focusing three program areas, supported by science, education, and advocacy. Our River Conservation work improves bottomland forest habitat and increases carbon sequestration. Our Prairie & Grassland Conservation work maintains our region as a stronghold for birds. Our Urban Conservation work engages people to improve habitat where they live and work, and to advocate for bird-friendly practices in their own communities.
Bird-Friendly Communities
People in urban areas play a critical role in fostering healthy bird populations
