THE ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES TRUST FUND:

  • Is funded by proceeds from Minnesota’s lottery.

  • Provided over $1 billion (since1991) in project funding to protect and restore our state’s water, land, and habitats.

  • Invested resources in more than 1600 projects to enhance ourprairies,  lakes, and forests.

  • Constitutionally dedicated funding for Minnesota’s land and waterways.

FUNDING AUDUBON RECEIVED THROUGH THE TRUST FUND:

  • Audubon has received more than $1.8 million for projects that support birds, riverside habitats, local planning efforts, wetlands,
and more. Currently we are working to map migratory bird stopover sites to better inform conservation and restoration efforts.

  • Our newest project, Birds, Beef & Better Soil studies whether the regenerative grazing practices developed to benefit grassland birds also improves climate change resiliency and benefits pollinators through maximizing soil and plant health.

2024 BALLOT MEASURE:

  • On the November 5, 2024 ballot, Minnesota voters will decide whether or not proceeds from the MN lottery will continue to be dedicated to Minnesota’s environment.
  • A YES vote continues this constitutionally dedicated funding for the next 25 years.
  • A NO vote means this funding will no longer be constitutionally dedicated to Minnesota’s environment.
  • If the ballot measure passes, it will also create a community grants program that will be more accessible to a variety of groups such as the 12 Audubon chapters across Minnesota, small NGOs, and support enhanced equity by ensuring BIPOC-led organizations and small rural organizations have greater access to funding to address local environmental issues.
